Fire on the Hill – Wellbeing Digest August 2025

Hello and welcome to this month’s edition of the Fire on the Hill Wellbeing Digest. What’s new? With the pace of life picking back up as holidays come to an end and summer begins to wind down, it’s difficult not to feel a little daunted.

That’s where community comes in. It’s equally important to think beyond our individual habits and look at what we can achieve together to support our wellbeing and mental health. And at Fire on the Hill, we’re putting this principle into practice.

Launch of our Wellbeing & Impact Team

Earlier this month, we officially launched our new Wellbeing & Impact Team, a group dedicated to creating a work environment where everyone feels connected, supported and inspired, across both our London and New York offices

The mission is simple but powerful: to foster a workplace where people feel heard, valued and included. It’s about making sure we all have the opportunity to thrive—not just mentally, but professionally and socially—while contributing to our shared success.

So, what does this mean in practice? Here are a few highlights from our first initiatives:

  • Normalising conversations around mental health – because saying “I’m having a tough week” should feel as natural as saying “I’ve got a cold.”
  • Curating office culture and energy – from music and snack options to small rituals that lift the mood and make our spaces feel more welcoming.
  • Building community and belonging – whether that’s celebrating cultural holidays or strengthening transatlantic ties through shared experiences.
  • Listening and acting on feedback – with regular surveys, check-ins, and open channels for everyone to contribute ideas on how we can make Fire on the Hill an even better place to work.
  • Championing impact outside our walls – from encouraging staff to use volunteer days, to offering pro bono PR and comms support to purpose-led organisations.

To kick things off, we’ve already set up a dedicated Slack channel for wellbeing and impact updates, launched an internal newsletter, and even trialled a rotating office playlist takeover. None of these ideas on their own is a panacea, but together they help to create an atmosphere where small wins accumulate – and those small wins are what shift culture in the long run.

The cynic among you might wonder whether being newly empowered to react to your colleagues’ Slack posts with a Wellbeing Walrus emoji can really make a substantive difference to your mental health. But the truth is, it’s often these micro-moments of connection, humour, and solidarity that remind us we’re not alone. And from there, bigger changes become possible.

As we step into the new season, I’m reminded that well-being isn’t about never feeling stressed or anxious again (if only!). It’s about building the right mix of individual habits and collective support systems so that when challenges inevitably come, we’re better equipped to face them.

The launch of our Wellbeing & Impact Team marks an exciting new chapter in how we approach this balance at Fire on the Hill. And personally, I can’t wait to see the ripple effect these initiatives will have.

Here’s to autumn leaves, small wins, and a workplace culture that makes space for both.
